Dek22 and Caramundo proudly present the exhibition ”LABURÉ”
van Guta Galli.

Guta Galli is a passionate young photographer from São Paulo. In her work she calls for attention for cultures and peoples in extinction or suffering threat. With her photographs, Guta supports the battle those people fight and the resistance they daily pay in order to live and maintain their traditions alive in a globalizing and constantly modernizing Brazil.

Guta Galli tells with the serie “Laburé” the expressive strory of the Afro religious community Ilê Aganã Axê Laburé, of the Kety nation, descendent from Nigeria, that until today revives rituals ad traditions from a far African past in the suburbs of Guarulhos, São Paulo.

The different gods (orixás) and their earthly appearances are shown in a mystic way. Guta wants to underline the importance of maintaining traditions alive in a modernizing society where young Afr descendents search for their common identity in a multicultural metropole such as São Paulo.

The exhibitions is made possible by Caramundo and Dek22. The photographs are for sale. With the money of the sales, Guta wants to support the educational program of the kids of the community Ilê Aganã Axê Laburé.
