GALLERY SEVERO 172 re-opens doors with “RESISTÊNCIA”
This Thursday December 17th, after being closed for a long time, Severo 172 finally opened with the grand multi-discipline interactive urban art expo Resistência! This cultural explosion set Rio de Janeiro’s city centre Lapa up side down and once more showed that Rio de Janeiro does have an innovating art scene that shouldn’t be neglected!
The team that’s putting Severo 172 back on the map of Rio de Janeiro’s Urban Art scene again, has been working hard for many months. For the re-opening of the gallery, some reforms had to be done, sponsors had to be found and plans had to be structured. Although not everything could be achieved at once, “Resistência” can be considered as a mark in time and the start of a new cultural season in Severo 172. Let 2010 begin!
Resistência was a surprising combination of graffiti wall by Eco, Ment, Bragga, BR, SWK, Nitcho, MGA and TM1, a street-art exhibition by Vagner, Donasc, Rafo Castro, Bives, Felipe Motta, Léo Uzai, Gais and Big, poster art by Togaone a VJ projection of Ian Victor, and a photography exhibition from Clarissa Pivetta and Márcio Arquiero bringing all upcoming and well known artists of the many disciplines together at once.
The ragga and dancehall from sound system Interferência Sistema de Som and guest selectas made the more than 300 person audience hit the sweat ‘till the roof and move their buts until the ground… DJ’s Machintal, Babão and Negralha only but added to this spirit with their rare selections in Brazilian soul, funk and hiphop beats.
All artwork exhibited and produced for Severo 172 will be for sale in the gallery as well as in the Severo 172 Webshop soon to be found online.

And if that isn’t enough, Severo 172 realizes workshops as well. At the moment there’s a summer stop, but in January workshops Stencil, Silk Screen, Paper Marché Toy Art, HQ and Carnaval Costumes will start again.
